I invite you to…

1

We have a super interactive unit called “Hanging Out” for level 1. The goal for this lesson is “I can invite someone to an event.” To give them the vocabulary, I show them as many authentic readings as possible and see if they can figure it out. I find tweets, invitations, event flyers, and real cards. There are pictures and they have their own background knowledge of invitations so they can figure this out.

Here are some fresh tweets. 20120401-111419.jpg

Here an an event flyer that I found on Google images.

Here is a Facebook event page where they create an event and later students can respond. Sorry it’s sideways. 20120401-111407.jpg

Here are three pictures that I use to assess their speaking. I put them in a bucket for them to draw, and then invite me. 20120401-111435.jpg

They can also make invites to an event or write a note inviting someone to go out with them and their friends. Here’s a link to a sample I made. Invite Writing Assessment

I’ll put my whole document up on TPT when I’m back at school.
