Friday Cheer
8I love FRIDAYS! And so do our students. The “Friday cheer” is one of my favorite weekly traditions. At my first school, we had a cheerful male business teacher that would do the “Friday cheer” every Friday. I didn’t want to be a copycat, so I started doing it when I switched schools, and we do it in Spanish.
Each Friday I pass out the letters for the cheer. The students line up in the front of class, in order for the audience. I ask a student to make these. Each letter is on it’s own page and I laminate these.
The first student yells “Dame una ‘V’!” (Give me a ‘V’).
The class repeats “v”.
The second student yells “Dame una “I”! (Give me a ‘i’).
The class repeats ‘i”.
Then after we go through all the letters, I yell “Que dia es hoy?”
They yell “Viernes!”
It’s a fun way to start a Friday class, they learn how to spell out this word and they never forget the word “viernes.”

I began this today with my classes, and they loved it!
Awesome! P.S. Your puppy is adorable!
[...] I also try to make a photo/video compilation highlighting the year’s most memorable moments (Friday cheers this year, mostly!). Here’s how this year’s video turned [...]
I’ve used the cheer
“¡Hoy es viernes y tengo que trabajar
Pero mañana es sábado y voy a descansar!”
I love this!
I love this!
I used this at the end of my class the other day…but after we spelled out viernes, I then had the kids yell “hoy es viernes, hoy es viernes, hoy es viernes…OLE” They loved it (even my seniors)
