We would love to hear when you are beginning your school year. For some of you, you may be in the middle of the year. Let us know! We find this helpful and interesting.
Would love to know what you all do for the first few days back to school, especially the first day. I always find these first few days to be difficult and try to avoid starting actual class material due to the fact that we don’t have full class periods and I don’t see some classes at all due to assemblies and such. You would think after 12 years I’d have this down, wouldn’t you?
Same here! I feel like I start new every year! We will show some basics that we love. My own 2 cents, always have a learning goal even if it is 20 minutes. Think about how you would feel if you show up and accomplish nothing at a faculty meeting or grad class. For example, on day one, we learn how to say our name. Simple, but it’s something that they can leave feeling like that accomplished something.
Hey Kara! Here in Belgium, school starts in just 2 weeks! Can’t wait
I teach private classes to kids (English, French & Dutch) and usually, on their first day back to school, I get them to draw themselves at a specific moment during the holidays, for ex.: at the beach with their family, and then teach them how to actually describe the picture (I am Emily, I am with my sister and our dog. My sister is Victoria.) There are many ways to apply this and kids love to get creative with pencils. You can for example tell them to only use certain colors and quickly rehearse those colors with them.
Thanks for all your great content, it’s really awesome to see how passionate you are about teaching!
